Free WiFi is everywhere these days. I came from Starbucks, Powerstation, Macapagal Avenue, Paranaque City, where I was able to communicate with my office and finish a fair amount of work using the free WiFi. Waiting for my car to be serviced at Toyota Manila Bay, I was able to continue working using their free WiFi. WiFi seems to be everywhere these days, and a lot of it is free. Amazingly a lot of the free stuff is blazingly fast.

I think for a person living in the Philippines WIFI is great. However for tourist or traveler it can be frustrating and misleading.
There are WIFI signs on Hotel, then you learn you must pay 50-100 pesos per hour.
I went into the Coffee Bean yesterday, the Robinsons Mall internet free was down. I went up to the counter to ask for the Coffee Bean security code. The women wanted a receipt for 250 Pesos, This is a days wages in the Philippines.
Every move is a test, every situation is trying to my patience. The Philippines people seems to want to be clever to the point of annoyance, it is worst than an Aiprort.

Am sorry that your experience was not too good. Unfortunately, when WiFi is not free it is still Php100 per hour. I forgot to bring my USB cable for my mobile phone so I had to use on of those Php100/hour Globe Wiz cards at Starbucks, Greenhills yesterday.
I super agree with Andy. Last month when my friends and I are at Subic, we were looking for hotels that offers free wifi since some of us needed to finish some work that night. We went into this hotel and asked the receptionist if wifi is free, she said yes. Then later that night, as we are trying to access the hotel connection, we were asked for passcodes.
It turned out, wifi is only free at the lounge area and paid connection is offered for the rooms. Sucks.
kEi,
Next time you are in Subic, try Venezia hotel. They have fast free WiFi available in all their rooms. I stay here every time I am in Subic.
